awesome, pickin up #1 after work today! thanks for posting the process, cool that you don't do too much with the line work and then go nuts with the brush pen, so much energy!
Very good work Sean ! very instructive. Can you tell us how you work with references ? I've read that you were taking pictures to complete the page. What are the differents steps of your process ? From what i see, it looks like : Doing the rough thinking only to storytelling and page building, taking pictures for the more complexes postures, quickly pencil with a blue marker using refs, inking only the line, and putting the black masses using the refs back. Is this it ? Is the final step the longest one ? how long does it takes you ?
I use blue marker to keep the drawings loose, and because I find blue pencil too waxy to ink over. Laurent, you're right about my process. This page, like most of the others, took about four hours to pencil and ink. Spent five minutes shooting the photo ref and a couple of hours getting easily distracted from working by looking at some comics and Googling myself.
thank you for your answer, Sean. 4 hours, that's amazing !! I draw comics, here in france, and even if we have more panels i don't know any artist drawing so quickly. And i'm not talking about the quality ! I really like the realism you give with your use of black.
Welcome to my blog. You've probably gotten here from my website www.seanphillips.co.uk. I plan on this place being a companion piece to there, hopefully updated more often.
Every working day I'll post an example of what I've been working on that day. a favourite panel or cover or sometimes a whole page of comics.
