Merry Christmas

Again nothing worth showing of my work today, I'm winding down for the holidays. Instead here's a detail of what I bought myself for an early Christmas present...It's a page of original art by one of my favourite artists, the late Jorge Zaffino.

Finished!

Just finished another issue of Marvel Zombies. I'd quite like to stop work now until January, but I've still got two covers to paint before Christmas and then straight back to drawing comics pages as usual. I hear real jobs have paid holidays, wonder what that's like? (I'm not complaining though, I'll be desperate to get back to work after Christmas, I love my job!)

I'm finding it harder to post up non spoiler Marvel Zombies pics, so I thought I'd show some old stuff instead...
Here's the first two episodes of a terrible comic strip I did for a competition back when I was 17. Unsurprisingly, I didn't get anywhere in the competition as my entry was derivative tripe. I was really into Conan at the time and this is full of Buscema and Kane swipes. Actually, probably every figure and background was copied from somewhere. Obviously nowadays I don't do that, apart from the occasional 'homage'...
By the time I drew this I'd already been getting published for two years, pencilling for Ken Houghton who kindly lettered this strip for me. I don't remember him giving an opinion of it except to get me to redraw one particulary bad panel. If I can face it, I'll put the remaining episodes up this week...

College

Haven't done any work today, went to my local art college to talk to some students about comics. The class is doing a graphic novel for their project so I went to tell what little I know on the subject. Thanks to Dan and Annie for the invitation, I really enjoyed it.
Here's a painting I did back in the mists of time when I was a similar age to the students who had to sit through my talk. I must have done it when I was around 17...
