you know, some of those marks look like brushpen, the pentel one, and some look like a brush... do you ever mix 'em?

It's all Pentel brushpen apart from filling in the big black areas.

Hi Sean,
I've been a fan of your artwork way back to Hellblazer and even Crisis, and am finding this blog a fasciniting insight into the nuts and bolts of your workflow.

I may be about to ask a silly question but do you favour a particualr brand of blue pen, or even pencil? Many years ago I worked for an animation company who used blue pencils but I've never found a satisfactory one since!

Julian,
I don't use a blue pencil. I could never find one that wasn't too waxy to ink over. I'm using a Magic Marker, but I refill it with Copic marker ink.

Many thanks for the reply Sean.

I was playing around with some letraset markers, but didn't really get on with the tips. I'll seek out a magic marker, but must admit I've been a little distracted recently by a Wacom Inkling :)

Hey Sean, I was wondering you're ever planning on posting any more of your thumbnail page layouts? You did a few for criminal and I thought they were really great, and was wondering if you still do them.
