JLA Classified

Been working on some Criminal pages today that I don't want to show yet, so here's a JLA page...
Received another batch of Rick Leonardi's brilliant pencils today. I'd love to start inking them straight away but they'll have to wait until after this episode of Criminal and all those Marvel Zombie inks I've got waiting for me.

Love and Rockets

This was probably the first page I drew after leaving art college in 1988. This was heavily influenced by Jaime Hernandez as I'd just discovered Love and Rockets.

Out in May, hopefully in time for the Bristol Comic Festival.

Drawn for the Diana Annual in 1982. Inked again by Ken Houghton. Probably swiped from Howard Chaykin...

Seven Psychos

Did a group shot for the back cover today. Looks like the book is out in May. Also from me in May is Coward, the first Criminal trade, Intersections, my art book with Duncan Fegredo from Image and some more Marvel Zombies. You'd all better start saving those pennies now...

First page of a series for Nikki comic from 1987...

Monday, January 08, 2007

Here's the second episode from the first series I had published. The first episode was drawn by Ken Houghton, and he inked and saved my pencils on the subsequent episodes. I think it ran for eight or nine weeks in 1982 in Bunty comic. I drew this while still at school, managing to pencil three pages each weekend. Ken taught me a lot and I ghosted pencils for him for a few years until I was 18 when I started doing pages all on my own. He died far too young in the late 80's but left behind a lot of good work in DC Thomson's and IPC's girls comics.

Blast From The Past

Back to work today, but nothing worth showing yet. In fact, as I'm drawing the last issue of Coward, the first arc of Criminal, I don't really want to show anything from that which would give the ending away. So for the next week or so I'll be posting up some of my less embarrassing old work. Before I became a world famous titan of American comic books, I drew for British girls comics in the eighties. Most of these were one or three pages or sometimes an epic of seven or eight episodes of three pages each. No decompression in British comics!
This first piece was a cover for Judy which I drew in 1987 when I was still at college..
