Brilliant!! Thanks for putting the partial inks, they are very helpful for beginners! I have tried to make a drawing of head following (slightly) the way you did it in order to grasp a bit of your technique. This is what came out:
partial inks
inks and
a bit of color.
Im not happy at all with the results, there is a lot of room for improvement but I think i learned some things in the process. By the way, to draw I used a blue pencil (so I could remove the blue layer on the computer) and then to ink i used a brush size 2 (don't know if that is standard). The paper is just normal paper. Keep posting this kind of stuff please!! :)

I'm consistently blown away by your inking - it seems you have very little to go on, yet you effortlessly create volume and mood. Great panel!

What gets me is the guy uses photo ref but the ref, I suspect, does not begin to solve the shadowing etc problems Mr Phillips nails every time.
