The flashback sequences remind me of Gene Colan's pencils on Nathanial Dusk.

Love the juxtaposition of the two styles, too. Great work. And yes to the Colan comparison, but I'd also throw in Bill Sienkiewicz and David Lloyd as a couple of possible touchstones. Plus, lacerating (literally) writing. Kudos to Brubaker.
Looks like this'll graduate from "Best new series" to "Best Ongoing" at next year's Eisner's!
